How it works

How a directory submission gets prepared with RankingsReady

You tell us which directories and practice areas you are targeting. Either you send your matters, or we gather them from public sources and short questionnaires to your lawyers. We draft each submission in that directory's format, check the referee spreadsheet and plan backwards from the deadline. Your team reviews, approves and submits.

Two ways to get your matters to us

A submission is built on matters: the deals, cases and advisory work a practice wants researchers to see. Directories such as Chambers call the strongest of these work highlights. You choose how we collect them.

Path A

You send matters and notes

Send last year's submission, matter notes and your referee list by email or your own secure file-share. Partial notes are fine; we turn them into the directory's format and tell you what is missing.

Best when your team already tracks matters through the year.

Path B

We gather them

We search public sources: firm news and deal announcements, court dockets, regulatory filings and press coverage. Then we send short written questionnaires to your lawyers to fill the gaps, and you confirm the list.

Best when partners are hard to pin down or nothing was kept from last cycle.

What public sources can and cannot cover

Public sources cover only part of what directories want. Confidential matters, client feedback and referees (the clients and contacts a directory's researchers interview about your work) have to come from your firm. The questionnaires are kept short so lawyers can answer them in writing without a meeting.

The steps, from first contact to submission

  1. Contact us

Tell us which directories and practice areas you are targeting, and when their deadlines fall. The deadline calendar and our directory guides help you check.

  2. Agree scope, timeline and confidentiality

We agree what we are preparing, the review dates and how confidential material is handled. We sign an NDA on request. We'll scope and quote after a short conversation.

  3. Gather the matters

Path A: you send matters and notes. Path B: we gather them from public sources and lawyer questionnaires, and you confirm.

  4. We draft and check

We draft each submission in that directory's own format and word guidance, with specific, provable facts rather than generic copy. We build the referee spreadsheet and check it for over-used referees, missing contact details and format errors.

  5. You review and approve

Your team reviews the drafts, partners approve their sections, and we make the revisions.

  6. You submit

Your firm submits the final files to the directory, so you stay in control of what is sent.

  7. We keep your matters organised for next cycle

Your matter information stays organised, so next year starts from this year's work instead of a blank page.

What we need from you

  • The directories, guides and practice areas you are targeting.
  • Last year's submission, if there was one.
  • Matter notes, or permission to gather matters and send questionnaires to your lawyers.
  • Details of confidential matters, marked as confidential or anonymised.
  • Your referee list, with current contact details where you have them.
  • A named reviewer and partner sign-off for each practice area.

What you get

  • A polished submission for each practice area, in the directory's format, ready for your review.
  • A checked referee spreadsheet in the directory's template.
  • A deadline plan that works backwards from each directory's deadline, with review and approval dates.
  • A note of what changed between drafts.
  • Your matter information kept organised for the next cycle.

Timing

Each directory sets its own deadlines, and they differ by guide and practice area. We plan backwards from each deadline, leaving time for partner review and referee checks before anything is due. Gathering matters ourselves (path B) needs more lead time than working from your notes, so tell us early if that is the route you want.

Common questions

How long does a submission take to prepare?

It depends on the directory, the number of practice areas and how much matter material already exists. We plan backwards from each directory's deadline so partner reviews and referee checks are not squeezed into the final days. The earlier you contact us, the more room there is for review.

We have no matter notes this year. Can you still help?

Yes. We can gather matters from public sources such as firm news, deal announcements, court dockets, regulatory filings and press coverage, then send short written questionnaires to your lawyers. Public sources cover only part of what directories ask for, so confidential matters and referees still come from your firm.

Do you submit to the directory on our behalf?

No. We return the submission and referee spreadsheet ready for the directory, and your firm submits them. That keeps your firm in control of what is sent and when.

How do you handle confidential matters?

Confidential matters are marked and handled the way each directory expects, and you can send anonymised matters. We sign an NDA on request, and we keep your information confidential and never sell or share it. More on our confidentiality page.

Can you guarantee a ranking?

No. Directories decide rankings through their own research. What we do is prepare stronger, researcher-ready submissions: specific, provable facts in each directory's format.
